Vistra said it completed its acquisition of Cogentrix Energy on October 30, 2026. The deal covers 10 modern natural gas generation facilities with approximately 5,500 MW of capacity, purchased from funds managed by Quantum Capital Group. The closing followed receipt of all required regulatory approvals.

Combined with Vistra's existing fleet, the acquired assets bring its generation portfolio to nearly 50,000 MW across the U.S. The plants are located in PJM, ISO New England and ERCOT. Vistra now holds 100% ownership of all the plants, including the 25% interest in the Patriot and Hamilton-Liberty plants that Cogentrix did not previously own.

Vistra previously completed the acquisition of Energy Harbor in March 2024, which added approximately 4,000 MW of nuclear generation. In October 2025, it also acquired seven natural gas plants from Lotus Infrastructure Partners, adding more than 2,300 MW of capacity.

Jim Burke, president and chief executive officer of Vistra, said the Cogentrix assets are a strategic fit as the company continues to grow its generation portfolio. He said the Vistra team has experience integrating generation assets into its fleet.
