GoPro, Inc. released a free firmware update for MISSION 1 Series cameras on October 13, 2026, changing how they capture photos. According to the company, the update gives all MISSION 1 Series cameras zero-lag shutter button response, so photos are captured the instant the button is pressed. Holding the shutter button down captures photos continuously, with more than 100 photos at 12MP or more than 20 RAW photos at 50MP.
The update also adds a buffer indicator that shows on screen when the camera is approaching its buffer limit, and a modernized shutter sound that confirms each captured photo. GoPro said the update is available now through the GoPro Quik app or on GoPro.com. Jensen Granger, GoPro's Creative Director of Photography, said the update was approached with photographers in mind.
GoPro also updated its MISSION Monitor app, a free live-preview app for iPhone and iPad, with four new exposure tools: a histogram, a waveform, an RGB parade and false color. The update adds wireless connectivity for cable-free live preview and image monitoring. The app update is free on the Apple App Store for devices running iOS 18 or later.
GoPro also released a GoPro Labs firmware update that adds anamorphic lens support to one MISSION 1 Series model with a Micro Four Thirds mount, aimed at film and television professionals. GoPro Labs is a public beta firmware program. GoPro said the firmware supports squeeze ratios of 1.33x, 1.5x, 1.6x, 1.8x and 2.0x, and that an on-camera desqueeze preview for the rear screen is planned. The firmware is free to download from GoPro Labs.
